Cylinder symptoms can originate in the actuator, valve, pump, hose, load or machine linkage. Troubleshooting is faster when the symptom is separated into external leakage, internal bypass, insufficient pressure/flow, air, mechanical binding or excessive load.
Cylinder Drifts
Piston-seal bypass can cause drift, but valve leakage can produce the same symptom. Identify the load-holding function before blaming the actuator and never isolate an unsupported load unsafely.
Motion Is Slow
Compare actual pressure and flow with the required point. Restrictions, low pump output, cold high-viscosity oil or load differences can reduce speed. One-direction-only symptoms may be direction-specific.
Leakage Returns After Seal Replacement
Inspect the rod for scoring, corrosion or bending and check bearings and alignment. Repeated seal damage is often a consequence of another defect.
Cylinder Lacks Force
Verify pressure at the cylinder under load, real linkage geometry and piston area. Do not raise relief pressure simply to compensate for a mechanical problem or undersized actuator.
